We hope you enjoyed your morning and we look forward to getting together again a little later on in the year.
Term 2 Week 2
The Gumnuts had a lovely late morning over at Bushworld , playing stuck in the mud with Emma and going on a nature matching hunt, finding natural treasures to match the colours on our paint sample cards. This was a nice team effort working together in pairs to find all the colours.
We would love to invite Mums over for morning tea next Wednesday over at Bushworld between 8.30 - 9-30. Please sign in and bring your children over . We hope you all have a wonderful Mother’s Day and we look forward to seeing you on Wednesday if you can make it !
Term 2 Week 1
Gumnuts had a lovely morning over at Bushworld, exploring our beautiful environment. There was lots of fungi for us to investigate, checking on our chart to identify what we had found. There was lots of talk about animal scats and we found a small piece and decided it was a Bandicoot scat after checking on our ‘What is that Scat’ chart . The children have totally embraced Bushworld and are loving learning about our natural environment and the creatures that share our space, today we saw many birds , bugs and even a tree that has eyes!
Term 1
Term 1 Week 11
The Gumnuts have been very interested in bush tucker. We have been concentrating on discussions around what is bush tucker and what is not and how important it is to not put anything in your mouth unless we know what it is! They loved making lemon myrtle tea, eating Lilly Pillis and plum pines and discovering the fruit from the coolamon tree! We love watching the children developing a deeper connection to Bushworld and the amazing things it has to offer us!
Term 1 Week 9
Before our first visit to Bushworld on Monday we went through the Gumnuts risk assessment book and discussed crossing the car park, holding our friend’s hands and staying safe at Bushworld. Without fences we must stay within our yellow ropes which makes our boundary.
We discussed snake and stick safety before we set off to work making our gardens at Bushworld look beautiful. The Gumnuts have loved their first week and have worked together in teams shovelling mulch into wheel barrows and spreading it out on our plants and garden beds.
Term 1 Week 8
The Gumnuts have been enjoying extending their interest in snakes ,engaging in a collaborative art work of a beautiful coastal python.
We have also been loving experimenting with some of the aromatic plants growing in our garden ,mixing together delightful potions and perfumes that are just yummy for our senses and also extends our knowledge of plants not only for food but for healing and other purposes, for example keeping those pesky mozzies away.
Term 1 Week 7
The Gumnuts interest was all about snakes this week. With all the wet weather we have seen more snakes about and the children were happily sharing stories about the snakes they had seen and the skins they had found. We will be discussing snake safety and what to do if you see a snake.
Janet found a snakeskin inside her house and we measured how big it was. Emma told us all about a snake she had a very close encounter with!
Outside today we had a fun time exploring our wonderful natural environment at preschool, the creek bed provided a wonderful opportunity for engineering skills as the children worked together pumping water and building bridges .
Term 1 Week 5
Rain rain go away ! Unfortunately the bridge was flooded this morning and for safety reasons we were unable to go to 'Bushworld'! We had a good talk about staying safe and decided that we would stay at preschool and make sweet potato muffins which were absolutely delicious. The Gumnuts have had a lovely week talking about the Rainy season and the changes we notice around us as the seasons change, and today was a great example of how this season can effect us as too much rain changed our plans for today.
Term 1 Week 4
The Gumnuts are developing lovely relationships with each other and the educators. They are really enjoying spending time in the playground and loved their first walk to Bushworld! They are already demonstrating their connections to the environment by even making friends with the creatures that share the playground with us. Finding caterpillars, lady bugs, a flying fox and even a little lizard family. The educators loved watching them bond together over their shared love of nature.
The children have been so interested in our tadpoles, they are learning about the frog lifecycle and habitat. They have loved watching the tadpoles grow and can’t wait to see their changes. The Bundjalung cultural calendar tells us it is peak breading season for frogs. The children have shared they have been noticing frogs and toads at home. There was much enjoyment at the craft table, painting tadpoles.
Term 1 Week 3
The Gumnuts have had a wonderful time continuing to get to know each other and exploring our outdoor environment. They have been learning about our native bees and garden worm farms and finding our resident Blue tongue was a highlight of the day ! We spent Wednesday morning at the creek bed building bridges and enjoying the outside water play.
Term 1 Week 2
We have had a wonderful first week together!
Our new children have explored and investigated in their new environment and our returning children have been great role models for the routines and expectations of preschool.
Some new friendships are already beginning to form and we can’t wait to spend the year playing and learning together!
