Tree Frog Monday/ Tuesday Group

Term 2

Term 2 Week 3

The Tree Frogs have had another busy week of learning and fun this week. It was lovely to have some of our Mums visit on Monday, the children certainly enjoyed spoiling you and sharing breakfast together.

On Monday, Kaylene asked the children to think about the ways that they care for Country, provoking lots of discussion about how we keep our world. This was followed up by a visit from Plastic Free Boy today. The children heard about the impact plastics in the ocean have on sea life and learned about the importance of using re-usable bags and plastics. You may hear them talk more about this at home. As usual there was always a lot more play and learning happening indoors and out. Bikes and wheelbarrow play was a very popular activity, we used a puzzle to begin exploring the bones in our body, and made some delicious pumpkin scones from Charlie’s pumpkin.

We said goodbye to our beautiful educator Molly today as she embarks on a new job and new chapter in her life, she’ll be very much missed by all.

Term 2 Week 2

This week the Mon/Tues Tree Frogs were very lucky to have our friend, Florence bring in some local honey from her family’s own beehives. Florence also brought in an informative bee book which sparked much discussion amongst the children about bees and what we know about them.

We tasted the yummy honey on some toast and read a bee story, sharing our knowledge with one another at group time.

Also after reading the story “brown bread and honey by one of our favourite authors, Pamela Allen we decided to make our own delicious fruit bread to have with the yummy honey - super delicious and great team work in kneading and waiting for it to rise before we could bake it.

We enjoyed a wonderful day in the sunshine on Monday and had lots of fun and learning inside today.

We wish you all a Happy Mothers Day and hope to see you at our Mothers Day breakfast on Monday morning between 8.30 to 9.30am

Term 2 Week 1

The Tree Frogs enjoyed reconnecting through play in the sunshine.

We used the talking stick at morning circle time to share all the things we have been doing with our families over the break. This was a great way to practise our listening and speaking skills.

The sandpit and creek areas were very popular and co operative play spaces today. We also explored colours through a fun felt story and experimented with creating with netting and string. Some of us made fish traps and fishing rods. We look forward to seeing you all again next week.

Term 1

Term 1 Week 11

The Monday/ Tuesday Tree Frog children have thoroughly enjoyed spending time outside in the gorgeous sunshine the past two days. It’s amazing how a bit of sunshine and blue sky can lift a mood and create a feeling of content and extra happiness with the children.

We’ve been busy exploring colour using our creative side to paint, felt and using some coloured shells on the light table. It’s also been a lovely week of social engagement through exploring nature and taking part in climbing and balancing on the obstacle course as well as lots of delicious meals being cooked by all our chef friends in the sandpit.

We hope you all have a safe and happy term break and we’ll see you back at preschool in Term 2.

Term 1 Week 10

What a productive week we’ve had in the Monday/Tuesday tree frog group.

We’ve been continuing our vegetable month activities by exploring how to grow seeds and looking after our growing vegetable garden at preschool.

Cooking is always a big part of our days at preschool and we also took part in “the big veggie crunch” by all crunching on some carrots together at lunchtime today.

Two days of wet weather has seen us busily playing and learning together indoors. Some of the fun things we’ve been doing is playing parachute games, table top games, cooking banana pikelets (thanks Ryan for the yummy bananas), box craft and lots of other social group activities.

Peter introduced his steel tongue drum to the children and we enjoyed taking turns and making different sounds on it.

We’ve set up a new “fill a bucket” learning area for the children and they are engaging in this activity to share happiness and kindness to one another.

Term 1 Week 9

We’ve certainly had a busy week! We have continued Vegie Month activities, this week cooking up some delicious veg and cheese fritters and taking a closer look at the veg we each brought to preschool in our lunchboxes. We began to grow our own vegetables by planting bean seeds and various seedlings in our vegetable garden. We marked Harmony Week (see the photo attached of the children sitting under our new harmony week artwork) and linked this to our current learning about emotions and the concept of being Bucket Fillers. Please read our Floorbook pages for more details on these activities and of course ask your children about how they fill up the buckets of people around them.

Term 1 Week 8

The Tree Frog Monday/ Tuesday group have been learning about healthy foods vs not so healthy foods this week, as part of the NSW Health initiative ‘Veggie month’. We made some yummy hummus and did some taste testing with carrots and cucumber. We also used our fine motor skills and made some healthy food collage plates, played some sorting games and read some books to support our learning. Next week we will continue to explore veggie month by cooking some healthy veggie fritters and planting some new seeds in our preschool vegetable garden.

Term 1 Week 7

The Monday/Tuesday Tree Frog group enjoyed coming back together this week and felt lucky to have a sunny morning to play outside, promoting a sense of happiness and gratitude with the children.

We’ve been spending time learning about the tadpoles that we have in the classroom as well as exploring where all the rubbish goes when it’s collected from our homes (see photos attached in the floorbook).

Thanks to Charlie for bringing us that beautiful big pumpkin a couple of weeks ago with which we made some yummy pumpkin scones.

We were all really surprised how much the children not only enjoyed cooking them but eating them too. I’ve attached a link to the recipe below as requested by many of the children.

We continue to build connections with one another and develop a sense of belonging as a group.

Term 1 Week 5

There was lots of lovely social play happening this week as the children are demonstrating more of a sense of belonging and comfort within the group.

With such a warm day we enjoyed engaging in water play which is great for the children to learn about sharing spaces and resources with one another.

Chalk grating and paint mixing was popular with the children as they explored colour combinations and trial and error with getting the consistency how they wanted it.

The tadpoles in the room have been exciting for the children to observe and something they look forward to checking on each day to see if there’s been any changes. We noticed a beautiful big tree frog living in the frog hotel at preschool today and next week we’ll spend some time exploring this a little more

Term 1 Week 4

What a wonderful week the tree frog M/T group have had! We've continued to focus on building connections with each other this week.

There has been lots of social play happening in the sandpit and creek areas as children develop greater confidence to share their ideas with each other and work together in play.

We have been busy cooking pikelets with honey, extending our interest in bees and the important work they do.

We also explored the fungus we found growing in the playground, using our magnifying glasses and the fungus poster to help us identify the different varieties.

We had a group chat about introducing an acknowledgment to country to our morning circle and the children sang a beautiful little song we like to use at preschool.

There was also immense excitment as we dug up enormous sweet potatoes from the vegie patch! Now, we just need to decide how to cook them.

Term 1 Week 3

We've had a lovely few days in Tree Frog room this week, becoming more familiar with preschool routines and our beautiful outdoor learning environment. The children were excited to test out the new 'Lookout', a deck that wraps around the big tree giving them a lovely view of neighboring houses and fields. Educators also observed many of the children connecting with each other as they played in the creek and sandpit areas. The children shared what they have enjoyed most about playing in the garden this week.

Term 1 Week 2

We have had a wonderful first week together!

Our new children have explored and investigated in their new environment and our returning children have been great role models for the routines and expectations of preschool.

Some new friendships are already beginning to form and we can’t wait to spend the year playing and learning together!
